Born: February 11, 1986
Flew to Heaven: August 31, 1986
Heather is my cousin. I could not create a memorial for my two sons and not include their angel cousin.
Heather was born with a rare genetic disorder called Smith-Lemli-Opitz Syndrome.
It occurs when both parents are carriers, and both pass the gene on to their baby. As was previously stated it is rare, occuring in approximately 1 in 20,000 births
in the United States.
Heather was not here with us for very long, but she touched a lot of hearts in her all to brief stay. I was fifteen years old when Heather was born. I can still remember the night she left us. I was staying with my Grandmother, who broke down in tears when she was told Heather was gone. I remember her crying out "No"
I also remember that everyone thought I shouldn't attend the funeral. To this day I don't know why, I was fifteen, I was old enough, I guess everyone else though I wasn't.
